Lamar promotes community vitality through history, education, and the arts.  Classes seminars, and events in sustainable living and participatory arts are offered on site at our legacy building from May through September.  In the cold weather months from September through May, programming is off site in collaboration with other area organizations.   Outreach to youth, intergenerational activities,  community empowerment and creative expression are hallmarks of Lamar.

The first stage of the renovation of our historic property was completed in 2004 and since then, thousands of people have come to Lamar for the joy and learning and celebration.

Our Vision

As a vital regional center for education in sustainable living and participatory arts in our rural community, Lamar Community Center offers affordable classes and events for rural community members of all ages and engages lifelong learners both within and beyond the community in multi-day seminars that enhance the local economy.  Activities take place at our legacy building, 1905 Lamar School, restored and maintained in keeping with its unique historic character, and with an emphasis on conservation, sustainable building materials, and renewable energy systems.
